I’m a Pinterest fan and part of being a pinterest fan is going along with the current fads and trends. I’m also a massive water fan, I drink A LOT of water. If I don’t have enough I’m moody, tired, headachey and have dry skin – attractive huh?
So when a little water craze sweeps the internet, I’m on it.
First up, for all you non water drinkers out there, let’s run through some benefits of swigging the clear stuff…
1. Helps you glow. Water purges the toxins.
2. Helps activate your organs. It increases the production of new muscle and blood cells.
3. Regulates your body temp.
4. Helps you lose weight. It suppresses your appetite, so you don’t eat as much. Drinking plenty of water also prevents fluid retention and ensures that your body burn stored fat.
5. It makes you smarter by increasing your cognitive function.
But water can be boring…
Which is why I love these “detox” aka homemade flavoured waters. Especially since a lot of flavoured waters you buy off the shelf contain all kinds of nasties and hidden sugars.
This is a great recipe from The Washingtonian. Fill a pitcher with water and ice. Add chunks of pineapple, enough to fill about half of the container. Add a mix of torn and full mint leaves so the top of the container is covered. Stir and refrigerate overnight or for a few hours for flavors to set in.
From thedenverhousewife.com > 2 lemons, half a cucumber, 10 mint leaves and 3 quarts of water. Add everything to pitcher and let chill overnight.
Skinny Water by BBaLaCate.com > 1-2 Lemons, 1 medium Cucumber, 1 cup Blueberries (lightly smashed if you want more flavour!), 3 chunks Ginger. Slice and place all of rest of the ingredients in the pitcher and fill with water, let steep in the fridge overnight.
Do you make flavoured waters? If so tell me your recipe below…
Hi Rachael, Very Interesting article on Water, I to like the clear stuff myself and I make sure I drink at least two litres everyday. I must say I don’t flavour it with anything put after coming across your recipes I sure will give it ago, Thanks for sharing 😉
I’m right there with you. I drink water all day long, and I love putting fruit in my water. Water is so wonderful for our bodies. My favorite is strawberry flavored water. The mint leaves sounds like something I need to try next.
The recipes above sound delicious! I infuse my water with organic oranges, mint, cucumber and grapefruit. I don’t allow it to sleep overnight though–it is tasty after approximately 20 minutes.
I know I don’t drink enough water – it is kind of boring. So I love the look of some of these. I have heard that lemon water isn’t that good for you -especially your teeth – what do you think?
Well the citric acid isn’t the best for teeth but then it’s like anything and if you consume fruit its the same thing. You should be ok if you’re brushing your teeth twice a day though 🙂
I don’t drink enough water! These recipes sound delicious and I already have all the ingredients, so I will start experimenting. Thanks for the good advice.
Rachel, I drink a lot of water, but if I feel like it, I simply add a bit of lemon or pomegranate juice in it.
Good suggestions though. I just take a simpler route.
Oh, love these salads — they are all bursting with color and look so gorgeous. Thanks for sharing such terrific options for lunch or dinner. I particularly liked the one with strawberry, avocado and spinach. I’m gonna make it this weekend. Have a good weekend! xx
Thanks for the mention!! I love the other ideas.. pineapple sounds DELICIUOS!!! and is great for your beauty. I must try it out 🙂
THANK YOU for originally posting! Absolutely love your blog x
Loving the water ideas, like you I drink lots too always think cucumber water tastes great. I might have to start jazzing up my own water too!
I’ve had cucumber, lemon and berries (not all together). The pineapple mint sounds SO good :). It’s definitely a great way to drink more water!
Howdy! This post could not be written much better!
