Sad news hit this week that Helen Gurley Brown died. If you’re not sure who she was and you’re female then get yourself to google STAT!
“Nearly every glamorous, wealthy, successful career woman you might envy now started out as some kind of schlep.”
One thing that Helen Gurley Brown believed in was that women can have it all. By having it all she wasn’t talking about being super woman and being able to juggle a top ceo position and 3 kids under 5. Instead she means you can have a great sex life, money, a job you love, a family, a social life etc She was THE ultimate modern woman.
“Beauty can’t amuse you, but brainwork—reading, writing, thinking—can.”
There are so many lessons we can learn from Brown. Her ethos of having a life you love and not caring what anyone else thinks is something which I aspire to achieve.
“Good girls go to heaven. Bad girls go everywhere.”
I feel really blessed to live in a digital age which makes it easier to connect with women who have the thinking as Brown…bloggers who help women love themselves, their lives and their jobs. Sarah Wilson, Polly Noble, Rachel Magahy, Marie Forleo, Danielle La Porte – to name just a few.
“Money, if it does not bring you happiness, will at least help you be miserable in comfort.”
Check out some more Helen Gurley Brown quotes…
“My own philosophy is if you’re not having sex, you’re finished.”
“How could any woman not be a feminist? The girl I’m editing for wants to be known for herself. If that’s not a feminist message, I don’t know what is.”
“Never fail to know that if you are doing all the talking, you are boring somebody.”
“One of the paramount reasons for staying attractive is so you can have somebody to go to bed with.”
“You can have your titular recognition. I’ll take money and power.”
