How To: Make Almond Butter – Paleo

So I’ve been looking in to paleo and gluten free food stuff and found a great flourless brownie recipe {which I shall post in the next few days} but to make it you had to have almond butter. Well, almond butter isn’t that common in Wales {unless I’m missing it anywhere?} so I’ve made my own.

What you need {this makes a jar so if you’re only using it for one recipe don’t do so much}

280g of Almonds (about 2 cups)
Unless you buy roast almonds you’re going to need to roast them first. Pop them on a tray and roast at around 350 (gask mark 4) for about 10/15 mins.

35g Coconut Flakes (1/3 cup)

1/2 teaspoon of Sea Salt

Simply pop in to a food processor…

Turn the food processor on and let it do it’s thing…you’ll have to keep scraping the nut off the side with a spatular but after about 15 minutes it’ll start to turn in to a peanut butter consistency. The longer you leave it the more creamy it becomes. I was using it for brownies so wanted it quite chunky…

And voila…raw almond butter.

Notes:
When buying Almonds don’t go to the cake section of the supermarket. If you have a world foods section go there as you can get a 750g bag of almonds for £5 {tesco} where as a 250g bag is £3.99

Same with coconut flakes…300g in the world food section is around £1.
