Why I include oils in my beauty regime

I’m going to be blogging a bit more about essential oils in the next few weeks/months (including running some online workshops on how to use essential oils, if you’re interested, sign up to my newsletter for details)

I love vintage beauty ads! Like this one from Palmolive in 1957

But I just wanted to do a quick post on why I use oils when it comes to looking after my skin.

First of all, oil is a simple, clean ingredient and much like what we eat, the less processed our beauty products are, the better they are for us. My top tip is that if you see the word “fragranced” or “perfumed” then it’s been tinkered with. Stick to organic, cold pressed oils for the best results.

Secondly, and this is the most important of all, because so many people think that by using oils they’re going to have greasy skin – just like fat doesn’t make us fat, oil does not make us oily. Fact.

Homemade face masks for you to try…

I had the best weekend at The Good Food show in Birmingham and have come away very inspired so expect plenty of foodie posts coming up.

However, I’ve been thinking of posting this for a while and since it’s a food and beauty mix I thought it was perfect timing. I don’t know about you but when winter comes along it wreaks havoc with my skin. The snapping cold wind and the central heating just does me no favours at all.

The latest must have beauty product – Fotoshop by Adobe

Fotoshop by Adobé from Jesse Rosten on Vimeo.

I don’t tend to weigh in on the use of photoshop in the media. After all, I’m a writer but still use a spell check and I don’t have an issue with singers using auto-tune or a builder using a hammer. I see them as essential tools of the trade.

However, I saw this video this morning and wanted to share…

We’ve all seen those ridiculous late night infomercials selling beauty products where the results are hugely amplified but in reality the before and after shots have just been subjected to a spot of photoshopping.

What do you think? Do you think the beauty industry should start shunning photoshop? Should adverts show real results?

You don’t have to rely on a healthy body image or self-respect anymore –
now that’s the power of Photoshop.
