Power Drink: Healthy chocolate shake

If you’re in one of those moods where the only thing that will do is chocolate then check this out.
Thick, indulgent and VERY chocolatey – without the crap that you find in shop bought milkshakes.

Oh and did I mention its super simple too? It has just 3 ingredients.

Healthy Chocolate Shake

– 350ml Unsweetened Almond Milk (coconut milk works REALLY well too)

– 1.5 tsp of Organic Peruvian Cacao Powder (obviously this depends on how chocolatey you like it)

– 1/2 Frozen Banana

Just place all the ingredients in a whizz. I like to add a teaspoon of chia seeds too for an extra thick shake.

Here are some top smoothie tips…

Bananas

I buy my bananas when they’re ripe and reduced at the supermarket. Not only do you get them cheaper but they’re perfect for smoothies as they add that perfect creamy texture and sweetness. Also, by using a frozen banana you get an instantly cold drink.

Cacao powder

Make sure that you choose a GOOD and ORGANIC cacao powder. You may have noticed me mentioning it on social media but I’m using Rise Organic Cacao Powder which is premium quality, 100% pure and organic and certified organic by the Soil Association.

Why use a good quality cacao powder?

Cacao beans contain over 300 health promoting compounds including theobromine, phenylethylamine, various polyphenols. They also have more antioxidants than red wine and up to 3 times more than green tea. So if you want to get the benefits, it’s important that you choose one that’s 100% pure.

Micronutrients in Cacao Powder contribute to:

• nervous system support

• process of cell division & specialisation

• normal muscle function

• normal cognitive function

• protein synthesis

• energy-yielding metabolism

• normal psychological function

• formation of red blood cells and haemoglobin

• maintenance of bones & teeth

• oxygen transport in the body

Can you have it as a meal?

Sure! Add a handful of spinach and some chia seeds and you’ve got yourself a great on the go breakfast smoothie. If you use a protein powder (again, make sure it’s good quality and not filled with sugars and chemicals) then adding 20g to this drink will taste delicious.

  5. My hubby has started to have a banana and blueberry smoothie everyday for breakfast, i wonder if he’d like this. Looks gorge!

    1. Not really but I tell you what you could use if you don’t want the carbs/taste of banana is half an avocado? That’ll give it the thickness then. Because really, that’s all I use the banana for is to really give it a thick smoothie texture. x
